Honeymoon Bliss

We returned from our honeymoon this past Monday after a fun-filled week in the Dominican Republic!

We can't wait to share photos and stories with all of our friends and family that made this trip possible.

Our awesome attendants!

In an effort to make things easy on our attendants, our attendants were told to wear grey. 

The ladies were able to pick a dress of their liking in a shade of grey from Dessy.  They finished off their outfits in raspberry colored shoes of their choice. 

The gentlemen picked a grey suit of their choice and topped it off with a tie (also their choice) that was yellow or contained some yellow in the pattern. 

As bride and groom, we coordinated in subtle ways with our attendants.  James wore a tie with grey and raspberry to compliment the ladies and I wore yellow shoes to compliment the men's ties. 

We loved to see each individual personality come through in their choices!  The range of attire selections was different enough to not be cookie cutter (which was our goal), but cohesive enough to look like they all belonged. 

The beauty, and our hope, is that everyone will be able to wear their pieces again since they were able to pick what they liked and what they felt most comfortable in.  We hope they were as happy with the outcome as we were! 

Today, our ladies attire was highlighted on the blog of Shop Joielle.  Shop Joielle is an online store which sells bridesmaid attire.  While we went local in almost every other aspect of the wedding, we found that Shop Joielle offered bridesmaid gowns at a discount which we wanted for our ladies.  Plus, we received an additional discount since we ordered more than 4. 

We didn't go with just any online shop though.  Shop Joielle is a small online store run by two savvy, customer-oriented ladies.  The service I received when scouting for a dress line was impeccable through Shop Joielle starting with handwritten notes when I first ordered swatches.  The feedback from all of my bridesmaids was extremely positive.  And, since my attendants were all scattered throughout the U.S., the ease of this online store and great customer service was a plus.  I would highly recommend them!

I met Kat several years ago when she donated her talent to Art for the Cure of Cystic Fibrosis, a silent auction benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor/memory of my sister, Robyn.  Kat also took some family photos a while back and we knew she was "the one" when it came to capturing our wedding day.  She definitely didn't disappoint!!

Wedding Wine

Having nice and drinkable wines at the wedding was a must.  Finding something that would serve as a table red and white at a good price was a bit of a challenge.  We ended up buying wine at Trader Joe's for under $10 a bottle!  It took a lot of taste tests to find something in that price range (who's complaining, right?), but we found a winner white and red.  We wanted to personalize the bottles, so Michelle created custom wine labels with our logo and wedding color scheme.  They looked fab!  We also used labels and empty wine bottles (from all our tastings!) for water flavored with fresh cucumber, lemons, and mint. 

The red wine (seen in photo) had their own labels, white, and H20.  I loved the way it tied our designs into the reception. 

Tip: to get the wine labels off the bottles we ran them under warm water making sure not to get the corks wet.  I used a pot scraper to get the label off and as much as the glue as possible.  For stubborn glue marks, Goo Gone worked wonders!

Now that the wedding is over, I am happy to share details on our planning, design, etc.  I'll add a tidbit here and there for any interested.  For those planning their own "do-it-yourself" wedding - have FUN!  It is possible and feels so great when feedback comes your way saying "it was SO you!" 

Our friend and go-to graphic designer, Michelle, made us a beautiful logo that we used throughout the wedding.  It was printed on circle labels within Word and were used to seal our invites; on our invites, programs, and all signage; on our blog; and even on temporary tattoos that our friend and bridesmaid, Samantha, had made for the reception!  Yahoo!

Our little Navester...

I am so sad to post that my best little buddy passed away last evening after a short illness.  Navin (named afterTiger Stadium in Detroit in 1912) passed away suddenly and we miss him so very much.  I will always remember and appreciate his friendship as he has been by my side for almost 13-years. 

Navin, you are now in Heaven with my little Robyn who will continue to love you as you watch over me.
